The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left off to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty, of course.
May 19 | Forgery, counterfeit
A Sam Rittenberg Boulevard bank alleged an employee took out over $24,000 in cash after opening three fraudulent accounts, and cashing counterfeit checks in them. Management at the bank reported having video of the employee completing all of the transactions. In one account, the employee deposited a $16,670 check only to withdraw $14,688; in a second account depositing $6,500 and withdrawing $6,400; and in a third $7001.59 and taking out $3,000.
May 20 | Drug equipment violation
Police responded to a West Ashley superstore after receiving a report of an unresponsive man in the bathroom. After pulling the man from under the stall, police found the man had a needle stuck in his leg behind his knee, and a bag of nine unused needles with him. A friend of the man at the store said the man had a history of heroin use.
May 20 | General information
A teenage girl reported being confronted by an older man outside a South Windermere store. The man asked the young girl a series of questions, including if she had a boyfriend and “sex makes you happy?!”
May 20 | Weapons law violation
Police placed a West Ashley middle school student under arrest after he admitted to discharging a 1,800-volt stun gun at school. A teacher had heard from students that the child had a stun gun, and administration checked video surveillance and saw the student get something from his locker, go with a group of boys into the stairwell, and then all the boys came running out, with the boy returning an unseen object to his locker. A search of the locker turned up nothing, but the group of boys all confirmed the action, and the boy admitted to it and produced the stun gun.
May 21 | Drug narcotics violation
Police were searching for a man with active warrants on Otis Avenue when they saw the man catch a ride in another man’s car. Once officers stopped the car, they found in the car 1 gram that tested positive for marijuana, 6.5 grams that tested positive for MDMA, and a .22 caliber pistol loaded with six gold full metal jacket rounds of ammunition. While attempting to arrest the wanted man, he placed his feet in the door jam of the police cruiser and his head against the other side of the door jam and fought not to be put in the car. Eventually, the man was taken to jail and charged with several serious crimes, but on the way wrapped a restraint belt around his neck as if in an attempt to choke himself.
May 21 | Forgery
A Savannah Highway car dealership reported that a customer had used a fraudulent check to purchase a 2012 BMW worth $27,800. When the dealership attempted to cash what appeared to be a certified check, the bank informed them the check was fraudulent. Management said this customer had done this in the past, and that they will drop them as a customer in the future.
May 21 | All other larceny
A man returned to his North Woodmere office to find that someone had stolen his $5,000 boat and trailer. The boat was a center console Hydro Sport Evinrude with a 120hp long shaft motor.
