The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department and County of Charleston Sheriff’s Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left off to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty, of course.
January 7 | Accident Report
A 34-year-old man was hit by a vehicle while crossing Ashley River Road, between Magnolia Road and Highway 171, outside of the crosswalk. The pedestrian was transferred from the scene with severe injuries. Due to the severity of the injuries the assistance  of the CPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team was requested. The investigation is still ongoing.
January 12 | Armed Robbery
A Sam Rittenberg cash checking business was robbed at gunpoint. According to the victims, a black male about 25 years old, weighing about 150, and dressed in all black entered the business through the front door and pointed a semi-automatic firearm at two of the employees. One of the victims put the money till on the counter and the suspect took the money from it and then said “I know y’all got more.” The victim, them gave the suspect a bag of money from the filing cabinet. The suspect then exited through the front door and ran down Sam Rittenberg Boulevard towards Highway 61. Police were unsuccessful in lifting prints from the door but noted that the door had been handled without gloves by both an employee and a CPD officer.
January 12 | Burglary/Breaking and Entering
Police responded to a burglary at an Ashley River Road pharmacy to find the drive-thru window had been pried open. The responding officer cleared the building and found the burglar had already left with an undetermined amount of prescription medication. It was not known at the time exactly what medication had been taken from the store. The pharmacy manager would have to do an inventory to be certain CSI arrived to process the scene to gather information and review video surveillance footage. The video showed that the suspect appeared to be a white male, shorter stature, wearing glasses, tan boots, blue jeans, black jacket, black beanie, face covering, and gloves.
January 13 | Robbery/Firearm
Around 4 a.m. a man walked into an Old Towne Road gas station store and pointed a handgun at the store clerk demanding all the money from the store’s cash registers. After retrieving all the money from the store’s two registers, he demanded that the victim enter the store’s cooler in the rear of the business and not come out. The victim did not sustain injuries during the incident and declined medical treatment.
January 14 | Burglary/Breaking and Entering
An employee of a local pharmacy reported that she when she came to work to open the business that the front door was ajar and the interior lights were off. When she entered the store, she noticed mud on the floor along with merchandise and prescription medication. She left the store and called the police. Upon arrival, the responding officer noticed the power source had been turned off and noticed prying marks near the lock of the door. The officer noticed a locked cabinet behind the pharmacy desk had been broken into. It was unclear the total amount of prescription medication had been taken and the complainant stated that medication with street value, such as muscle relaxers, pain medication, etc.) were still there. But that a lot of antibiotics and pregnancy medication were missing. A full inventory was needed to determine exactly how much was missing. None of the three registers nor the safe in the store had been disturbed. The complainant contacted the store’s security system provider, who advised the alarm would been disengaged by the power being shut off. However, the in-store camera system was backed up by battery, and was being reviewed. CPD was not sure if this crime was connected to the pharmacy burglary two days earlier.
