The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left out to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty … of course.

August 15 | INJURED PARTY
Police found an unresponsive man curled in a fetal position in a pool house bathroom stall along Amberhill Way with a spoon laid on the toilet tank. Fired department responders later discovered the man was holding a syringe in his hand.

August 15 | ANIMAL SERVICE RESPONSE
A dog being walked by its owner down Ashley Hall Road lunged at the face of a passing man and caught his beard in its teeth. The owner said the man had swung a bottle of laundry detergent at the dog, at which point the dog bit the man’s arm, breaking the skin, and drawing blood. The man said he’d swung the bottle only after the dog had initially attacked him.

August 15 | CRIMINAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SIMPLE ASSAULT
A woman told police that her ex-boyfriend hit her from behind with a table while she was packing up her belongings to move out of his Grech Street apartment. Police found a small laceration to the woman’s left cheek she said she suffered when he pushed her against the door. The police also found a broken table in the apartment.

August 16 | SHOPLIFTING
A loss prevention officer at a Savannah Highway grocery store told police a man threatened a busy deli worker with a long knife, hitting it on the counter several times. The man told the deli worker to stop what they were doing and make him a submarine sandwich immediately. When the worker placed the made sandwich on the counter, the man took it and walked out the store without paying for it.

August 16 | DRUNKENNESS
Police found an intoxicated man passed out in bushes next to an Ashley River Road alcoholic beverage superstore. Once roused. the man could not answer any question asked of him.

August 17 | SUICIDE
Police were called to respond to an attempted suicide at a Savannah Highway strip mall. Once they arrived, they encountered a man with blood on his arms, shirt, and face, holding a switchblade knife. After the man kneeled on the ground, police were able to take him into custody without incident. The man told police he was diagnosed with several serious mental health issues. Police then tracked down the man’s girlfriend, who said they were arguing earlier when the man stepped outside and began cutting his arm. She also said he’d been drinking since that morning, and hadn’t been taking his medication for a while.

August 17 | ASSISTING OTHER AGENCIES
Police arrested a woman admitted to a local hospital for an outstanding larceny warrant in a Northeast Georgia county. Police found her with almost $1,000 in cash in her purse.

August 17 | INJURED PARTY
Police took into custody a man at an Etiwan Drive apartment complex who was “acting crazy and throwing things.” Police had spoken with the same man earlier the same day at the same location, and reported him to be seemingly stable. The man told police, “I’m a racists [sic],” after painting swastikas and “Satan is Love” on the wall of his home, as well as throwing pieces of pottery at nearby residential units.
