The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left out to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty … of course.

Intimidation
A S. Sherwood Avenue man reported hiring someone to do some work on his roof that is now threatening to kill him. The man posted an ad on Craigslist, and the worker responded, did the work, and was told he’d have to wait a day to get paid because banks were closed for the national Memorial Day holiday. The man said the worker informed him he carried a gun and that he takes care of his own problems. The man also received text messages that included, “You’re done,” and “I’ll beat your face in.”

General information
Police arrived at a Savannah Highway specialty store to investigate the disappearance of more than $9,000 in antique coins. The man had reported the coins missing, and suspected that his stepson had convinced an associate to sell the coins, which are untraceable, to the store on the stepson’s behalf.

Burglary, breaking and entering
An Ashley Crossing Drive man told police that he believes a man known as “Dorcheddar” may have been involved in a break-in at his residence. The man returned home to find his front door forced open, as well as three “weapons” and $600 in cash missing. A neighbor witnessed two men leaving the area earlier, one who matched the description of the aforementioned “Dorcheddar.”

Criminal domestic violence, simple assault
Police arrested an Evergreen Street couple for attacking each other with sticks. Both people, who have cohabitated for the past 10 years, claimed the other struck first, and that they were only defending themselves. Police reported finding the two sticks allegedly involved in the assaults stored conveniently on top of a nearby utility closet.
June 1
Simple assault
The mother of two elementary students complained to school officials that her son had been hurt in a school bus fracas in which the driver should have intervened sooner. School officials sat down with the mother to review the bus’ onboard video, which “clearly” showed her son striking several students, as well as hitting the bus driver with closed fists. Apparently, the fight started when a student charged with maintaining behavior on the bus yelled at the boy’s sister to sit down.

Criminal domestic violence, intimidation
A Hazelwood Drive woman drove her car up quickly to a parked officer’s cruiser, saying her ex-boyfriend was following her, and had “brutally assaulted” a few days prior, and was now threatening to “pistol whip” her, and that she feared for her life as she broke down in tears. The ex-boyfriend’s vehicle soon drove up at similar speeds. During a verbal discussion that then ensued, the ex-boyfriend threatened to pistol whip the woman in front of the officer, and was arrested. The woman said her ex had demanded that a child they had had together not be in the presence of her newest boyfriend.
June 2
Simple assault
An Ashley Hall Plantation Road mother asked the parents of another middle-school child on their school bus to take down a video of their children fighting. The video showed the two fighting, as well as the daughter’s blouse being torn, and her fighting topless.

Kidnapping
Police responded to a Savannah Highway pharmacy where a woman told them that her boyfriend had assaulted her earlier in their residence and refused to let her leave of her own accord until he spoke in the morning with his public defender. Apparently, when the woman had tried to leave after an argument over who would pay for ongoing moped maintenance, the man grabbed her by the back of the neck, drug her back into the residence, and shoved her face into the sofa.
