Local entrepreneurs wanting to take part in the successful model of Avondale Point and get their businesses really rolling now have an economical and supportive way to get their foot in the door.
Josh Silverman, founder of Jericho Inc., located in the same swath of buildings as Gene’s Haufbrau on Savannah Highway, has just kicked off a small-business “incubator.”
Local entrepreneurs will now be able to rent office, work, and retail space on a short-term basis, with access to meeting and conference spaces, where “pop-up” shops can enjoy a more extended run.
This could give a budding business the chance to branch out of an extra bedroom or garage without signing an expensive long-term lease, while being located on a major road in an up and coming area.
City planners, politicians, and merchants have been pointing to the Avondale as the “gold standard” of what West Ashley’s rebirth could be.
Additionally, Silverman said those taking advantage of the space will also be able to network with each other and receive his company’s consulting services on a free or reduced rate.
Silverman said his model differs from Regis, a national company that rents professionals office space replete with a receptionist and conference rooms, because of the focus on small business and his consulting services.
The next thing budding entrepreneurs need after space is guidance, said Silverman, whose company also used to provide financial and investing advice.
