West Ashley High School (WAHS) dropped its first loss of the season to neighboring Summerville High School on the road last friday night 35-14. Both teams are now 4-1  on the season.
WAHS started the game with electric excitement as Senior Anthony Dobbins returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown and after Caroline Cashion’s extra point had the Green Wave in a 7-0 hole 11 seconds into the game.
The Wildcat defense did an excellent job stopping the rushing attack of Summerville, forcing them to punt often. But WAHS had two costly turnovers hurt the Wildcats. One a fumble inside their own 30-yard line that was returned to the Wildcat 15 and resulted in a touchdown for Summerville. The other was a blocked kick that was returned to the Wildcat 2-yard line and was rushed into the end zone on the ensuing play.
The final touchdown for the Wildcats for the evening was a 1-yard run by quarterback Pedro Manigault, who led the Wildcats with 62 yards rushing. But it was too little, too late for WAHS. The Green Wave ran out the clock on the ensuing drive, giving the Wildcats their first mark in the loss column this season.

This Friday, Oct. 5 the Wildcats return home to host the Patriots of Fort Dorchester High School, who routed Wando High last week 41-13.
