West Ashley’s Flip! Gym recently had 16 of its athletes place in the top three for all-around at the South Carolina USAG State Gymnastics Championship in Greenville.
Training anywhere from nine to 20 hours a week year-round, FLIP! Gym team gymnasts began attending competitions in October throughout the Southeast, competing at small in-state competitions up to large national competitions. FLIP! GYM’s gymnasts had a winning streak throughout the season with 1st place all around champions at every competition along with several top three team placements. FLIP! GYM’s men’s USAG team also had a strong season, with several State event winners, one State champion, and one Regional qualifier.
Top all-around gymnasts from Flip! Gym include Michael Tranfield, 10, and Laurie Ware, 9, who represented South Carolina as part of the official state team at the Men’s USAG Regional Championship in Jekyl Island, Ga. on April 8 and will compete at the Women’s USAG Regional Championship in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. on May 13-15. Every gymnast in the Xcel program also received qualifying scores to compete as an all-star at the same Regional Championship next month.
Level 6 competitor Jen Fermo, 10, and Level 8 competitor Ruby Hansen, 12, qualified individually and competed at the Regional Championship in Asheville on April 22-24.
Additionally, Flip! Gym had three athletes earn qualifying scores for advancement, including Ivy McComb, 15, who will move up to Level 10, Cecelia Smith, 14, who is advancing to Level 9, and Ruby Hansen, 12, who is advancing to Level 9.
Located at 1012 St. Andrews Blvd. in West Ashley, Flip! Gym is home to more than 600 recreational and competitive athletes, offering year-round competitive training up to USAG Level 10 and intro level teams, camps, skill clinics, choreography, classes for children and adults, as well as birthday parties, and facility rentals. Flip! Gym continues to grow their programs and is working on plans for future expansion in the Charleston area.
