Based in New York City and originally hailing from Columbia, Md., Militia Vox is a multi-talented artist who has recorded, toured and shared the stage with some of the best in the business, including: Cyndi Lauper, Twisted Sister, Living Colour, Taylor Dayne, Nancy Sinatra, Sandra Bernhard, The Paul Schaffer Band, and many more. On Saturday, May 20 Militia Vox will play The Tin Roof in West Ashley along with local rockers Anergy.

Well known as the electrifying frontwoman for Judas Priestess and Swear On Your Life, as well as former Host/VJ from MTV2, VH1, and Fuse, and a key influencer of the Afropunk movement, Militia Vox officially stepped forward as a solo recording artist in 2013. Her mesmerizing presence, raw power and four-octave range have captured the hearts of icons such as Dee Snider of Twisted Sister and famed producer Sid Bernstein.

In praise of wicked women Militia Vox calls her music “Femme Metale”. Her albums Bait and Isosceles were self funded and independently released to international critical acclaim. Her music has been featured in commercials and anime films, and she directs and creates all of her own video art to support her musical vision. Militia Vox is currently touring with her band and mixing her next album “The Villainess.”

Militia Vox’s mantra is “Disgrace Your Stereotype” and she lives her life by this adage, encouraging people to be true to themselves and rise above labels. She is a magnetic public speaker at colleges (including Berklee College of Music) and conferences (such as SXSW), as well as being featured in several books, TV shows, and films. She hosts many festivals and events, stars in musicals and cabarets and also produces her own one-woman shows. She is also a member of the Black Rock Coalition and a voting member of The Recording Academy (NARAS).

Recently, Militia Vox won three 2017 Gold Medal Awards of Excellence in the Global Music Awards for: Best Female Vocalist, Best in Genre- Alternative Metal and Best Lyrics/Songwriting.

Militia Vox plays on Saturday, May 20 at Tin Roof, located at 1117 Magnolia Road. For more information, call 571-0775 or visit www.charlestontinroof.com.
