Anyone wanting to strike a blow against cancer and a blow for the courage of a young girl gone too soon, can at an upcoming oyster roast.
Creekside Pizza Company of West Ashley will be hosting a oyster roast fund-raiser for the Hugs for Harper organization Sunday, Feb. 16 starting at 1 p.m. Creekside is located at 2600 Savannah Highway. There will be raffles, giveaways and more.
Hugs for Harper was founded in the wake of the passing of a special 11-year-old girl, Harper Drolet, who had been hit with pediatric soft tissue cells cancer.
Scientifically, it’s called rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), a rare cancer that develops in the body’s connective tissue, like muscles, fat, bones, blood vessels, or the membranes that line the joints.
Harper, a student at Blessed Sacrament, was active in charity before she died in 2009, having helped raise 7,000 toys for an organization that provides toys for other kids in the hospital.
If you can’t attend, you can still contribute. Mail a check to: Hugs for Harper, P.O. Box 31245, Charleston, SC, 29407.
