Over the past two weekends, I’ve learned that costumes just make life better. Last weekend was one of my friend’s bachelorette parties in the mountains. Let me set the scene: Mountains. Cabin. Waterfalls. COSTUMES! It just got WAY more fun. Next up is this past weekend. Throw some costumes into an Easter celebration and the holiday becomes a much more fun event.
So, is it all just fun and games? Yes! Costumes bring an air of fun and lightness to any event. My friend group has always had a sense of humor, but I think we take costumes to a new level. When you put on a costume, you put on a persona to go with it. At the bachelorette party, we had a costume dance party.
Over time, each of us have built up a pretty significant costume closet, including a variety of items that have come in handy at events not necessarily costume-oriented (like Lunacy at Voodoo, the St. Patty’s Day pub crawl on Folly Beach, or the infamous “Hollywood train wreck” house party of 2007). Just a few of the costumes rocked at the bachelorette party were: Mr. Peanut, a Penguin, a Girl Scout, a Hot Dog, a Grecian Goddess, a construction worker, and a Pirate.
On Easter, our friends held a beautiful and delicious Easter brunch followed by an Adult Easter Egg Hunt. Of course, costumes were encouraged. Everyone took it to heart, wearing their Easter best, including the guys. Some of them sported pink, purple and Madras for the first time, and this might be the only occasion for it to ever be appropriate to pop the collar on a pastel Polo shirt. Anything to enhance the experience and the spirit of the day! I wore a bright pink hat, which I also plan to sport on the beach all summer.
Our Adult Easter Egg Hunt (where plastic eggs held such items as mini bottles and lottery tickets) was followed by a raucous game of charades. All in all, each both of these events were made better simply by dressing the part! Costumes don’t have to be complicated or expensive. Some of the best finds come from Goodwill and a little creativity. I found my hot pink Easter hat at the Piggly Wiggly for $10. So, why limit yourself to dressing up on just Halloween or thinking it is just for kids? I guarantee, throwing on a costume dresses up any event in spirit and style!
