Students are heading back to school soon, football season is gearing up, and The Kickin’ Chicken team has come up with a fun way to give back to the local community. During the entire month of August, visit any of the five Charleston locations, donate $1 and get your name on your choice of a Clemson or South Carolina Chickenhead, with monies going to two local charities: The Teacher’s Supply Closet and Hootie’s Homegrown Round Up Back to School Basics.
To keep with the friendly in-state rivalry, all Kickin’ Chicken restaurants will be competing with each other and the store that raises the most money will have their donation matched by the owners of The Kickin’ Chicken.
To the team at The Kickin’ Chicken, being a local business means giving back to the community that supports you. “We are committed to our customers and community and feel that we cannot only raise much-needed funds for these organizations, but we can help educate our guests and staff about the important work these organizations do,” says Chip Roberts, co-founder of The Kickin’ Chicken.
The Teachers’ Supply Closet, a non-profit organization that provides free school supplies to teachers in the Tri-County area that work at schools where 88 percent of the students are on the free or reduced lunch program.  Currently 34 schools at the 88% poverty index from Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties are invited to shop.
International music star Darius Rucker graduated from Middleton High School and grew up in the public school system in West Ashley. He and his former band mates have teamed up with the Charleston County School District and created Hootie’s Homegrown Round Up Back to School Basics. The program provides children with school supplies and other services necessary to be well-prepared to start the 2013/14 school year. The Roundup will assist 1,700 high-poverty elementary school students from nine Charleston elementary schools
The Kickin’ Chicken has been locally owned, operated and involved for more than 15 years. For more information about The Kickin’ Chicken visit www.kickinchicken.com.
