Because it’s a Presidential election year, there will be more mudslinging than normal, more partisan bickering than ever, and more of a threat of voter fraud. There will also be more activity at the polling stations and thus a need for more volunteers than a normal election year. So between all the mudslinging leading up to Nov. 8, the Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration has been working hard in preparing  for Election Day. But what really goes into organizing an election for a county as big as Charleston?
On Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. the West Ashley-James Island Business Association (WAJIBA) is hosting a special presentation entitled Behind The Curtain\, which will look at the logistics of an election from the perspective of those who do it. Joseph L. Debney, the Executive Director of Charleston County’s Board of Elections, will talk about the challenges and measures the board takes to ensure that things go as smoothly as possible and what they can do to avoid voter fraud.
The meeting is held at Bessinger’s BBQ, located at 1602 Savannah Hwy. The cost is $20 for the public and free for WAJIBA members. It includes a buffet lunch. For more information contact WAJIBA president Kirk Matenaer at wajibiz@gmail.com.
