I love lemons. I have a Pinterest board dedicated to the fruit. Lemon in my water? Yes, please! Lemon chicken? Absolutely. Lemon car? No way. And, I’m lucky in the fact that I haven’t bought a lemon for a car. It just turns out, that I might be the lemon when it comes to cars.
This past year has been drama-filled in terms of the automobiles in my life. In April, while my husband was on a bachelor party in Puerto Rico, I was in a car wreck on I-77. The car hydroplaned, hit a guardrail and spun around 3 times. I walked away from the accident unscathed. I was lucky but the car not so much. It was totaled. But, that’s why we have insurance and I just kept reminding myself how lucky I was to not have been hurt.
The next week, as my husband and I shopped for our new car, our 2nd car wouldn’t start. We towed it to the shop only to find out it needed a new engine. Within one week, we were down to zero cars. I flew out of town that day for one week and kissed my husband good-bye adding, “Please buy us two cars while I’m out of town.”
He proceeded to shop on the lot, while I sat in the hotel lobby looking at the cars online that he was test-driving in person. He successfully bought two cars in one day.
Just when I thought our car drama was over, my husband and I parked our car at Park N’Go. Park N’Go is an airport shuttle service and parking lot that provides “safe and secure” parking for the airport. It’s a little cheaper than parking at the airport itself and since we planned to be gone for over a week, we thought it was worth saving a few pennies. I parked my new Jeep Liberty and left for a worry-free vacation.  On Day 2 of our worry-free vacation, I received a call from Park N’Go letting me know they ran a Jaguar into my Jeep.
Three weeks and five thousand dollars worth of damage later, I am still without my Jeep. My friend recently told me, “If it wasn’t for bad luck, you would have no luck at all.”
So, I’ve had a lot of lemons lately. Normally, I like lemons, but this car drama has been over the top. What do you do when life gives you lemons? Make lemonade or even better, a lemon martini. At this point, I might need a whole bottle of lemon vodka! But, the problem is, I’m the lemon! I’m the bad luck! How can I turn my bad car-ma around?
I don’t have the answer for that one yet. If I did, I’d be driving my new Jeep around, worry-free. Or maybe the point is, it is out of my hands. When life gives you lemons (or you are the lemon), its how you deal with it that counts. So, I’m sitting back and trying to not worry about it all so much.
It should also be noted that after pulling into the Post Office last week, she saw the publisher of this paper. Just moments later the transmission in his truck died. You can reach Katie at kewsolutionsinc@gmail.com
