Charleston’s largest Home Brewing competition and home brewing festival returns as home brewers prepare to compete for a shot to have their beer brewed by Holy City Brewing and distributed throughout the state. In addition to the grand prize, there will be awards for runner up, the coveted People’s Choice award, and even a prize for the best beer name. This year, the competition is open to all South Carolina residents and more beers will be brewed to be distributed at Mellow Mushrooms statewide.
Registration for the 2014 Iron brew competition began a month ago and ends this Wednesday, July 30 with an event at Mellow Mushroom Avondale, where the announcement of this year’s secret ingredient(s) will be revealed. Teams can register at Mellow Avondale, Holy City Brewing or online at www.iron-brew.com.
Last year’s ingredients were lavender, coriander seed, basil, and rosemary. In 2012, the first year of the competition, the ingredient was local honey. Who knows what the mad scientists at Holy City will come up with this year. Whether you’re a brewer, an Iron Brew contestant, or just a fan of beer, come up to Mellow Mushroom at 6 p.m. this Wednesday for an evening of good beer and good beer talk as some of the region’s best home brewers turn out for the kick off of this unique event.
The Iron Brew Festival will be held Oct. 18 at Holy City Brewing, where the pubic can try the beers and the winners will be revealed.
The 2014 Iron Brew Ingredient Reveal Event is held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30 at the Mellow Mushroom Avondale, located at 19 Magnolia Road. For more information, visit www.iron-brew.com.
