Hymn For Her has a unique style for sure. Made up of Lucy Tight and Wayne Waxing, the eclectic duo have been described as “Hell’s Angels meets the Amis.” They’ve also been called “punksy-folksy-airstreamy-country-bluesy-grassy-take you on a hayride to hellsy.” Someone even described them as “Morphine on Speed.” That’s Morphine, the experimental rock group from the ’90s, not the drug. And that’s speed, the slang for amphetamine, not the measurement of velocity.
No mater how you describe them, Hymn For Her, has been busy touring across the country and abroad over the past few years, injecting juiced-up backwoods country blues with a dose of desert rock psychedelia. Next week Hymn For Her will roll their vintage 1961 Bambi Airstream touring trailer into West Ashey when they play the Tin Roof on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
Hymn For Her actually recorded their last album, ‘Hymn for Her Presents … Lucy and Wayne and the Amairican Stream’, in the very Airstream they travel in. For their newest album ‘Hymn for Her Presents … Lucy and Wayne’s Smokin Flames’ the twosome kicked it into high gear. They traveled to Ghetto Recorders in Detroit to work with Jim Diamond, who worked with The White Stripes on their first two albums. Hymn For Her, recorded live with Diamond and mixed 12 original songs in just one week.
Along with launching the new CD, Hymn for Her also have a hot sauce under the same name as the album. Like their unique blend of music, Lucy and Wayne’s Smokin Flames’ Hot Sauce features bananas, jalapeños, and smoked paprika.
Hymn For Her play Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Tin Roof, located at 1117 Magnolia Road. For more information, call 571-0775  or visit www.charlestontinroof.com.
