Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art school is an alt-drawing movement where artists draw glamorous underground performers in an atmosphere of boozy conviviality. Known for its Anti-Art sentiment, Dr. Sketchy’s brings old school art sketching to a cabaret-type setting creating a new wave artistic performance. It was founded in 2005 in a dive bar in Brooklyn, NY by artists Molly Crabapple and A.V. Phibes. Now Dr. Sketchy’s has spread to more than 100 cities around the world. Most recently, Dr. Sketchy has found a home in Charleston at 4th Wall Studio in West Ashley.
This Thursday, May 12 come out  and see Charleston’s dazzling Mermaid in action at the official launch of Dr. Sketchy’s Charleston at 4th Wall, located at 815 Savannah Hwy. in Avondale. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the show officially beginning at 7 p.m. This will be the first Dr. Sketchy’s live drawing session. Artists of any background and level are invited to come and get creative while enjoying a performance and maybe a cocktail.
The Mermaid of the evening will be making a splash, carrying out small performances stopping for various intervals of time to allow audience members to take pen to paper.
