An area group of do-gooders this Saturday is hosting the seventh-annual Pedal4Pattison’s 4-Hour Spinning Marathon to raise money for a West Ashley charter school for students with disabilities.
The event will be held at the Pattison Academy for Comprehensive Education (PACE) Charter School at 2014 Bees Ferry Road. Close to $880,000 has been raised at this event over the past six years, so this year’s fundraising goal is $100,000.
To get ready for the “marathon,” riders have had access to free training rides from staff from Charleston Ride spinning galleries.
The Spinning Marathon is being held to raise money and awareness for the needs of children served by the programs of Mt. Pleasant’s Pattison’s Academy, including its day camp, which provides the only therapeutic summer camp for children with multiple and/or severe disabilities.
At the summer camp as well as the PACE Charter School, the children receive much-needed physical, speech, and occupational therapy as well as specialized educational instruction and support.
East Shore Athletic Club has donated 130 spinning bikes for the event, but are far from the only sponsors. National sponsors include Spinning®, Star Trac and The Feed. The title sponsor is locally owned McAlister Development Company.
Other local sponsors include Firefly Vodka, Charleston RIDE, Zeus, Inc., Five Star Senior Living, Palmetto Plastic Surgery, Justin O’Toole Lucey, P.A, Lucey Mortgage, McElveen Chevrolet, Triangle Char+Bar, Ally, First Federal SCBT,  Southcoast Community Bank, Grant & Kuyk, P.C., Hominy Grill, Alice Keeney Photography, Carole Hassell, Everyday Gourmet, Fox Audio Visual, McElveen Chevrolet, SKIRT! magazine, Mt. Pleasant Waterworks, 360 Clean, Marcial de Gomar’s Emeralds International, Turnkey Creative, Vapor and United CHS Racing Team.
All of the event’s profits will go to benefit Pattison’s Academy and the children they serve.
